Maxxis’ ongoing commitment to the design and manufacture of world-class tyres has again been proven in the recent Wheels Magazine 2020 Tyre Test.
The prestigious yearly tyre test was conducted at the Sydney Dragway facility. This year’s test vehicle was the Hyundai Tucson Highlander diesel, fitted with 18-inch rims, using 225/55R18, a high volume size in the market that continues to be fitted to many popular SUV models Wheels Australia commented that the vehicle was “one of the top-selling, mid-size SUVs on the market”, and a “respectable handler”, which “made it a perfect proposition for the Tyre Test 2020.”
The high-calibre list of contestants (10-strong), included two Continental patterns, Cooper, Toyo, Bridgestone, Kumho, Hankook, Giti, Hifly – and of course, Maxxis!
The team from Maxxis submitted the 225/55R18 Maxxis Premitra HP5 for the test – a tyre with a heavy focus on providing safe and reliable handling and performance in a variety of conditions.
The test showed the absolute strength of the Maxxis in the safety critical criteria of wet and dry braking taking out the top spot in both criteria, ahead of some very esteemed (and higher priced) competition.
The judges proclaimed that the Maxxis HP5 was the “King of Braking in 2020” and went on to say that it “was the only tyre to arrest 1.6 tonnes of Tucson in less than 40m of wet bitumen.”
The Wheels Australia team also commented that “Maxxis is a scorcher if you have to wash off speed…!” A very strong performance in what is one of the key differentiators in tyre performance and forms a very safety message about the Maxxis tyre.
The HP5 also topped in the wet cornering discipline, of which the judges commented “through our two soggy corners it (the HP5) edged out all contenders to provide sheet grip counts for plenty.”
Overall, the HP5 finished up on the podium – second only to Continental, one of the world’s leading tyre brands – an outstanding result for Maxxis, and proof of the rewards being reaped from the time and money being constantly invested into producing tyres of world-class calibre.
