Packing a punch with some serious
muscle is all in a day’s work and play for Team Chevara – racing a D22 Nissan
Navara with a 6L Chevrolet powerhouse (get it, Chev-ara!) over some ultra-tough
off-road tracks and landscapes.
While the team has been successfully
running Maxxis Bighorns since 2011, the recent switch over to Razrs has given both
its results and driving enjoyment a new boost! They’ve grabbed a First in class
and 4th outright at Parilla in South Australia and a First in class
and 7th outright in Wynarka, both of which Chevara Team Leader Jai
describes as “extremely tyre-dependent race tracks”.
According to Jai, the team
changed to Razrs (from the much-loved, long-standing Bighorns) because their
Maxxis Sales Rep wanted them to test them out for some feedback… and it seems
that feedback couldn’t be better! “We now run Razrs on our truck and 4WDs and
love them — these will be the only tyre we run from now on,” he says.
When they’re not in official
off-road races, the team’s favourite off-road playgrounds are the Flinders Ranges
and Mallee country, around Geranium and Lameroo – giving their Razrs plenty of
exercise between comps.
And if you’d like to know a bit
more about their vehicle – here are some of the facts and custom alts:
- The Navara cab is standard with a Navara chassis and
fiberglass Nissan panels – and custom alterations giving the rig loads of extra
bite. - Transmission
is a 2-speed Powerglide in a custom Reid case and a 9.5 inch spool diff — both
built by JRM Transmissions. - It
goes without saying that engine, from Proud Race Engines, is a big noise under
the bonnet — a 6L Chev punching out 950 Nm of torque at the wheels! - Plus,
the truck has 19” of suspension travel front and rear controlled by Fox remote
coil over and triple bypass shocks per corner. Yep, this is one tough
rig!
Good luck Chevara for the rest of the 2019 season – it sure looks like with the help of your Razrs the other off-roaders have met their match!
